Mod 3: Breakfast from 9:45 to 10:00. Then have students work on writing and rehearsing their "NewsCast" Assign silent reading to anyone who "thinks" they are done. Breakfast: Proof Reading
Mod 4: Languge Arts: Go over the rules to the apostrophe worksheet. Have a class discussion about them. Handout Apostrophe Worksheet 1. When they finish you can go over it as a class or give them the answer sheet to check their answers. Move on to worksheet 2 with the same guidelines.
They can then have time to go to the Plantation Link on the wiki and explore what life was like for slaves. Have them take notes about what they discovered. If anyone finishes early they can write a few diary entries about life on the plantation as if they were experiencing it like Clotee. A first person account. Plantations
Mod 5: Social Studies: You can read to them from the textbook: pages 142-147. Stop and discuss key factors as you go. You can do this for 20 minutes and then let them go to the weblink Haiti on the wiki and let them explore Nat Geo for Kids site about Haiti. Again, taking notes. We are getting ready for a guest speaker on Tuesday who is from Haiti. If you don't want them to use the computers just keep going over the text. There are worksheets if you would rather. If they do the worksheets they must work alone and then they have to include page numbers and paragraphs for the multiple choice items. At the end of class have them shut down their computers and put them away. Hait Take notes
Mod 8: Science: Bill Nye the Science Guy. Nettie has the movie, please get it from her. Watch the movie and have students take notes. After the movie if there is time you can reveiw orally the facts they learned. They could write a "letter" to Bill Nye regarding all the things they've learned. I'll upload a document on the wiki that is a guideline for this activity.
